What's new in the zoo … absolutely nothing, the inner workings of America's way of life, and who runs the operation might have different characters, different rhetoric, and are sprinkled with a smattering of ethnic diversity, but the goals remain the same, and whichever political party holds sway doesn't really matter, it's the closely parallel outcome that counts.
Over the past seven years the country has had to deal with Bozo the Clown, Donald J. Trump. Over the past 18 months or so the country has been dealing with first the candidate, and now the president, the geriatric Joe Biden. I'm a year younger than this old geezer and walk, and talk five times more coherently than him … what an embarrassment, especially for the greatest country on the face of and in the history of the earth.
What the country has had over the past 28 years has been five terms of Democratic values and practices, and three persuasions of the Republic party. During this time the country has been like a pendulum that has swung from good times, to not so good, and it's been under both political parties.
Since 1901 America has had 12 Republican, and nine Democratic presidents who called 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue home. To give you an idea of the opulence that these men and their families shared, take a quick look at the following:
If the White House were for sale, the asking price would be around $418,601,051. There are 55,000 square feet in the dwelling, with a value of $7,611 per square foot. If the single family (house) was for rent, the asking price in today's market would be around $1,645.041 per month, "water and utilities included," you would need to take care of your own trash.
The White House sits on an 18 acre plot of land, and is enclosed in an ever increasing security fence. There are 16 bedrooms and 35 bathrooms, a bowling alley, a gymnasium, several kitchens, banquet halls, and work areas if you are so inclined. However, even if you were a multimillionaire, you most probably couldn't afford the place, the liability insurance would probably eat you alive.
And the Vice President and their diggs … Number One Observatory Circle, which like the White House is old, to be exact, 128 years. The Vice President and his/her family live in the 9,000 square foot, and is a two story with an attic, which used to be the servant's quarters now houses four bedrooms, and is worth around $7.8 million on today's real estate market.
The president is paid $400,000 a year, the vice president hauls in $235,100, while the members of Congress (rank and file) draw an annual salary of $174,000. Of course there are perks (aren't there always), health insurance and matching retirement benefits plus more.
My point in delving into all of this minutiae is really very simple. The same stuff has been going on in government for time in memorium, and the American people have been putting up with it and/or really falling for it.
Former President Donald J. Trump really wasn't much different than his predecessors, in his way he actually was just more up front with the shame, he simply couldn't resist the folly of how people fell for his outrageous speeches, accusations, and how he absolutely bashed America's political system.
And by far the biggest supporter of how government operations, the attitudes, and overall general atmosphere of the country is concerned, is the media … all forms of the media. There are some in the media who are absolutely having a field day, they've never had it so good. Some people hang on every word, others bashing the words, it doesn't matter to these people … its notoriety, something that they are addicted to, and will seemingly do whatever to get their elixir.
Almost without exception over the past several decades, people entered politics because they had a desire … to gain power, esteem, and most important … position. Once attained, they are complete and ferocious fighters who will do anything to remain in their position.
Few of these political types need wealth, they already have it, they however will never turn down a chance at more and the means always justify the ends. And if you've noticed, over the past couple of paragraphs, I did not identify either Democrats or Republicans as the purveyor of these desires ...they all thirst for these gifts.
And the attitude by the vast majority of Americans, whether left, right, or in the middle is that the other guy does the dastardly deeds, with a hunger unmatched in America's history. What a bunch of hogwash, all persuasions in the political spectrum are guilty as hell and the American people are simply too blinded by the rhetoric that they are constantly fed.
There is one thing that I am certain of, the American people somehow are collectively asleep at the switch. Many don't trust the country's election process, almost everybody blames the other side, and somehow people blindly follow their candidate. The citizens of the United States, by far, are some of the most misinformed developed countries in the 21st century.
What can be done…..I'm old and the only thing that I can do is sit in front of my computer and bang out probably a few meaningless words on my keyboard. It's a hobby, it keeps me busy, out of trouble, and as my wife says … out of her hair. But one thing that I am certain of (hopefully not in my lifetime) America as it is known over the first decades of the 21st century is going to evaporate into something that few even dream about … it's going to be scary, it'll simply be a rehash of some point in history.
